SUMMARY

  • A review of 2023 by the Kingdom Hearts Database

As the year 2023 wraps up, we want to take a look back at another incredible year on the Kingdom Hearts Database and the Kingdom Hearts community this last year.

Top pages and end of year stats.

Following is the top 20 most popular pages on the Kingdom Hearts Database this year:

This year, we reached 154,794 views, almost 50,000 more than last year. The Kingdom Hearts Database has achieved nearly 500,000 unique page views since its founding in 2018.

Events in 2023

Quite a bit happened this year.

First, in January, the first closed beta for Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link released in Japan.[1] Participants were strictly prohibited from sharing content from the beta, and so we saw very little from the beta release publicly. However, images of the customization options did become public.

Additionally, the first vinyl album of Kingdom Hearts music, featuring the Kingdom Hearts IV trailer track "Reality in the Dark", was announced in January for release in April.[2]

In February, the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack albums were released to all major streaming services.[3] For the first time, tracks from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix were available on services like Spotify, YouTube Music, and Tidal.[4] With this latest release, the full albums for Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance are still missing from these services.

Also in February, the second Kingdom Hearts concert, Kingdom Hearts Concert -Second Breath-, was held in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan.[5]

In March, we celebrated our fifth anniversary,[6] which included a new design, a new logo, and more content.[7] The beginning of our Tweet Archive (soon to be revealed) began to be compiled, as well.

The third annual "March Caprice: A Celebration of Kingdom Hearts" online event was held at the end of March this year. This year stretched the event out to three days for the first time, featuring many more participants than in years past.[8]

The Kingdom Hearts Database Twitter account, our first social media account, hit 1,000 followers on May 9 this year.[9] Throughout the year, we began to expand our reach on other social platforms, including Threads and Mastodon.[10][11] You can find our current socials on our Social Media page.

Additionally, "Reconnect: A Kingdom Hearts Community Celebration", the first fan-organized, in-person Kingdom Hearts fan event, was held in Austin, Texas in mid-September. Organized by our friend KHGuides and his team, the three-day event included a variety of activities for both in-person and online participants.[12][13]

2023 saw a renewed interest in our support for independent wikis. Starting with our joining the Gaming Wiki Network at the end of last year, the Database was involved with publicly supporting the launches of the new Minecraft Wiki, Megami Tensei Wiki, and Hollow Knight Wiki. Senior Admin KeybladeSpyMaster also published an article summarizing the problem with the Fandom wiki farm and the basics of going independent, which we have shared several times.[14][15] The Kingdom Hearts Database became a founding member of the new Independent Wiki Federation, which was officially unveiled on September 5, 2023.[16]

The year rounded off with a slew of announcements and developments for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. In October, the official Twitter account for Kingdom Hearts Union χ was updated for the upcoming mobile game.[17] A new trailer was revealed shortly thereafter.[18] The title, announced last year for Android and iOS, saw a new closed beta test which released in Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia in late November. This time, participants could share the beta online, allowing many more to get a sneak peak at the upcoming mobile game. An Android beta is scheduled for January.[19]

Thank you to all of you for supporting us during this year. We're excited for all the things we've got lined up for 2024, and all the new things coming to the Kingdom Hearts community as we start a new year. Happy new year from all of us at the Kingdom Hearts Database!
